Pre-Prosthetic Surgery
If a tooth has been extracted, the underlying bone might be left sharp and uneven. Some patients require oral surgical procedures to smooth or reshape the bone before receiving a partial or complete denture, in order to ensure that their denture fits comfortably. A denture sits on the bony ridge, so it is important that the bone is the proper shape and size.
Some pre-prosthetic procedures include bone smoothing and reshaping, removal of excess bone (tori), bony ridge reduction, removal of excess gum tissue.
